My 94 940 Wagon stalled in the middle of a very busy intersection. Fortunately, two brave men pushed me out ot the intersection. While waiting for the tow truck I attempted to start the car again and it started up. However, after about 30 minutes of driving it started sputtering and shaking and I had to get a ride home. I let my car set about 2 hours and it started up again. I was able to get the air filter change and a new set of spark plugs. Also the spark plugs wires were checked and seemed to be good. Monday after running errands and driving home it started sputtering and shaking again. It would only move after setting for 5-10 minutes. I made it home, but not sure what is going on. I am not sure what to do next? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.
The problem could be:
Fuel system relays develop cracks in solder joints on the relay circuit board. Those cracks create resistance, which creates heat, the board expands due to heat and those cracks become an open circuit. Fuel pump shuts off, car stops. Relay cools down, connections make contact again, car starts and runs until problem repeats.
A 940 should have a black noise suppression relay under the hood that can do the same thing. That relay powers the ignition/fuel injectors, and was placed under the hood rather than with the other relays - to avoid radio interference.
