940 GL Transmission Problems?
Hey guys! I am having a couple of issues with my 92 940 GL. First of all, I am not all that mechanically inclined...but can hold my own when needed. Here are my issues:
1) When it sits for more than 4 hours or so, it takes about 2-3 miles of driving to get it to change out of 1st gear (it's an automatic). I checked the transmission fluid and it is full and pink in color.
2) The odometer does not work, but the speedometer does. Would this be a gear inside that is broken and if so, is it hard to change them out?
Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to not spend a ton of money on it, so I need all the help I can get at this point. Thanks in advance!

RE: 940 GL Transmission Problems?
Hello All ,
I am new to this forum as well and I have the same question as my compaion here on the transmission. I have a 1993 Volvo 940 (automatic) and I have the same problem with the transmission not shifting out of first gear for 2 or 3 miles. My fluids are just fine . I even added Lucas transmission additive . What do you all think could be the issue ? Filter ? Gear ? Whole tranny?

please start a new thread with a new car and problem, and identify what year/model car you have...
the kickdown cable comes off the throttle pulley, and heads back and down to the transmission. when the throttle is completely closed (no gas pedal at all), there should be a slight amount of slack in the exposed end of the cable, and the little bead on it should be just a hair outside the end of the ferrule adjuster, which normally has an orange plastic dust cap on it. when you step on the gas pedal, you should feel a 'cam' or 'notch' action before the pedal is fully floored (test this with the engine off), thats the kickdown.
