Default Transmission problems, 940 turbo.

Hi. The transmission has gone on strike and is not transmitting. It sort of grabs a little off and on. The fluid looks kind of brown and doesn't have any of the red colour in it. Do you think a fluid change and filter change would get it back on the road, and would that be a difficult affair? If doable, how should I proceed? It is a '91 940 turbo sedan 4 door. Thanks in advance.

I'd flush the transmission several times, but I would pull the pan as well to do it. Buy a new filter and pan gasket.
If you find lots of metal filings and brown slurry in the bottom of the pan, budget for a rebuild.
They're fairly cheap transmissions to rebuild.

Regards, Andrew.
