Default 940 rear deck speaker wiring

I have a nice 1992 940 with less than 100K on it still. Want to upgrade the stereo system and looking to put 6x9s in the rear deck. They're not there now as I have speakers in the 4 doors. Does anyone know if the wiring is installed to the rear deck from the factory? It is not visible back there, but wondering if it is hidden behind a panel or something. If not, any advice on the best practice to get the wiring back there?

I have a 92 740 wagon, so can't answer if the wire is always there, but my 92 740/940 wiring diagram shows rear 'parcel shelf' speakers. left + is yellow-white or yellow-brown, left - is white or yellow-green. right + is green-brown, right - is green. this rear parcel shelf speaker wiring is shown dotted, which probably means its optional.

instead of 6x9's, I'd go for oversized component 6.5" rounds, with a seperate tweeter and external crossover, I find they have nicer, more natural sound. I'm particularlly fond of JL Audio's midline speakers, like the C2-650 Evolution.

the standard place to run rear speaker wiring is along the driver side door sills. remove the step/sills from the bottoms of the front and rear door frames, remove the lower B pillar trim, lift a bit of the carpet, and route the wires through there, up the rear wheel hump, and you should find where the antenna wire goes into the trunk and can probably run your speaker wires through the same place.

do note, rear parcel shelf speakers tend to blast your passengers, they need to be turned way down if you have back seat passengers. the door speakers are much more balanced.

I was going in weather it was pre-wired or not. For all interested, the wiring WAS there. Once you remove the rear seat bottom and back, rear deck cover, and padding, you will find the wiring there all ready for you. Obviously can't guarantee it will be there in every car, but if yours has the 6x9 cutouts in the rear deck, there is a good chance it will be there. My car now has Boston Acoustics S953 speakers in the rear deck. What a difference!

Thanks to Pierce for the reply. I opted for the 6x9s. I don't have passengers back there very often so the only blasting will be what makes it to the front for me!

if its already cut out for 6x9s, those are the obvious choice, for sure.
