Default 940 wagon tail lights

Hello all,

Is there another tail light that is better than what is on this car now? These lights are not only ugly but with only one bulb lighting up,very dim at night unless I use the rear fog light. Will any newer Volvo wagon lights work on the 940?

Thanks

I replaced both tail light assemblies on my 240 sedan with ones from Lamps and lenses for about $100 total.http://www.lampsandlenses.com That included new circuit boards too. All I had to do was install them and plug them in, it was really easy. You may want to look there and see if they have any for the wagons. If not I'm sure you could find new units off ebay.

The 960 are a little different.
I think the 960 look better on the 740,940 cars.

Will 960 lights fit on my 940? Would I need any mods to make them fit?

I think the wiring is a tiny bit different but not much.

I forget exactly what makes them different though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the picture, they could have just used the same photos for both cars to save time. If you order the ones for your car I'm sure you'll get the right ones. I know they stand behind their product because one of my tail lamps was shattered during shipping, I called them and about 3 days later I had another brand new one. They are good to deal with.

Another possibility is a cheap fix (which is the kind I specialize in) which sacrifices the fog lights for better brake lights. Cut the wire (in the rear wire harness) that leads from the fog light to the switch and splice it to the brake light wire. Then brakes will light up all four bulbs (2 each side) and the fog light switch now does nothing except sent voltage back to those cut (and hopefully taped up) wire ends. You can put it back later if you opt for newer lights anyway.

If you decide to buy the newer light assemblies, maybe you can advertise your old ones here in the classifieds for sale. The Pull-a-Part junk yards around Atlanta seem to be full of cars with either broken light assemblies or ones where one colored segment has dropped out and is gone.

I will put them up for sale if I can find a newer version that will fit and make the car look more updated and better lighting.
