Default ac bypass

i hope that someone can help. i have an 86 240 wagon and i would like to bypass the ac compressor pulley because the compressor is seized and it is too expensive to replace. the power steering belt travels on this pulley and therefore i am getting a serious workout anytime i drive. ipdusa has a bypass kit for an 84 would this work for an 86 or any other suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks in advance

Default RE: ac bypass

One option is to replace the ac compressor with a junk yard special. You don't even have to worry about it functioning as a compressor, you just want it for the pulley and bearing. This should lower the price at the yard substantially, since they do not have to guarantee it to work as a compressor. Other options are to remove the ac compressor and one of the drive belts from the alternator/water pump, and use the other slot on the harmonic balancer to drive the ps pump directly, either by driving it alone or by running the belt around the water pump also. If you do, you will have to figure out the belt length, and do some modifications on the plastic timing belt cover. I believe the timing mark tab is slightly in the way.
