Finally got the old carl running. With the air mass meter disconnected chugged to a used parts dealer. Tried one of his used air mass meters and low and behold the car ran with the AMF plugged in. Miracle of miracles. Just to put closure on this item, here are the resistance readings for the two meters. One good the other bad. The Bosch part number on this type of air mass meter is 0 280 212 007.

From the looks of this it would appear that there was a problem in the reading between the 5 and 6 terminals in the bad unit. The others seem to be relatively consistent.
