Default Airbox

This may or may not relate to my issue in my other post, but I am pretty sure my car is missing the airbox thermostat that controls the flapper. I was playing with it wondering how in the world does that flapper switch from hot to cold (It's stuck in hot). It takes quite some force to press that little shaft down with the spring to switch it over, not the mention the rubber seals are half gone.

I've read about people modding these and permanently closing off the hot side and only sucking cold air from the fender. I'm pretty sure theres no MAF damage as the thin wire in the MAF housing is intact. Should I go ahead and close off the hot side? If so, any recommendations on doing so?

The flapper is very simple to alter. Just drill a small hole near the edge of the flapper, and another small hole nearby on the portion the flapper rests against. Then just feed a flex-tie through, zip it down and snip the excess.

Alright, thats what I was thinking basically. Except my idea was to drive a sheet metal screw through both the flapper and the part it rests against.

Or rip it out and seal off the hot side...

That too, I have it ziptied for the time being. It's an old tie though so I'll probably have to check on it now and then.
