Default Any way to clean oil trap without removal?

90 740 turbo

leaking at what appears to be camshaft seal, before was at oil cap, hoping that relieving pressure due to clogged oil trap will stop or drastically slow leaks

Sure...I've used a can of carb spray w/ moderate success. Just change your oil afterwords. Also check all the vacuum nipples on your intake and TB to make certain they aren't clogged. I've seen them so clogged it took a tiny drill bit in a hand drill to clean out.

Not sure if you're joking or not...Carb spray a/k/a carburetor spray, is a strong solvent specifically designed to remove deposits in and around carburetors. It works wonderfully to dissolve congealed oil. As you can see from thepicture, it comes with an extension that allows pinpoint spray. Pull the rubber hose off of the oil trap and spray the heck out of it. Replace hose, change oil. All the crap you dissolved ran through the oil trap and down to the oil pan...probably best to change the oil.
This is a picture spraying a carburetor...it's the same principle...

Default may be best way

This thing is BURIED under the intake. Anyway to remove the oil trap w/o removing the intake?

If I use the carb cleaner, how much/how long should I spray it? This may sound dumb but with the engine running or not? (probably not) Should I run it after I spray it out?

Also, I pulled the timing belt cover off and it is definitely leaking behind the camshaft pulley, hope cleaning the oil trap stops this leak although replacing the seal doesn't look too bad.

Thanks so much for your advice!

Used a ton of carb cleaner on it (not 2000 pounds, but close), also switched to heavier weight oil 10w-40 (did switch to synthetic oil, but switched back after leaks started)....

seems to be leaking less, much less actually, will see how it drives tomorrow and how many gallons it does or does not leak on the way to work and back.

for those of you hanging on the edge of your seats like this is an action movie, I will keep you updated tomorrow.

Good night ladies.

Good night sir.

Hit it sweetheart.

leaked about 1/2 a quart in about 100 miles. Not good, although is leaking much less.

Got quote from shop to do camshaft seal for $175 and oil trap for $140

Would like to do myself and don't have the money right now to fix it and hate to drive it like this. What do you think?
