Default Anybody live in Clearwater FL?

Hi,

This is a bit off topic but I found THE car I've been searching for ...'95 940, right color, right options, right miles and right price but I've got to close the deal tomorrow sight unseen. (Too many other buyers already lined up) Clearwater is pretty small, I wonder if someone in the area could do a drive by and see if it really looks like a #1 condition old mans car. I'm 300 miles away.

Thanks

thanks anyway, I can't get the dealer to look at it tomorrow so it's gonna have to be a regular shop off the car talk site.

Thanks for offering, turns out the guy I paid to look at it said was #2 car but very nice. However he pulled the VIN for me and carfax and the dealer turned up a LOT of problems, the cars not from Florida, but Chicago. His Dad wasn't the original owner and while it did have very low miles for the first 6 years, it changed hands in 2001 and started racking up 20K per year, the last time the dealer had it it was 2002 and it had 102,000, he's selling it now as 78,000 original miles.

Plus the tax rolls show while he and his Dad have lived in their Clearwater homes since 94, the car was getting serviced in somebody else's name at a dealer 80 miles away.

So, nice car and he made have been taken when he brought it but without being able to see it, I passed.

Personally I can't understand anybody trying this brazen a stunt in this day and age with all the documentation public records and a few keystrokes away.

You are obviously a savvy used car buyer; like you, I would never purchase a used car based on what the seller told me about it. Always get the carfax, and always get it checked out by qualified tech before you plunk your $$$ down! Good for you!

You would be surprised how many folks, even in this day and age, still don't take these simple precautions.

Good luck on finding your #1.

I'm scanning all South Florida, Tampa, Orlando Gainesville, Jax, Nothing. Only liars, thieves and cheats.(AKA dealers) Glad I brought the unlimited carfax,
Prices are actually going up on the mid 90 #1 and #2 cars. It's not usual to see a low mileage car go for above retail, sight unseen in an hour from posting. After I backed out this deal it went for above asking and it was a bogus car.
I blame those two guys on car talk. A couple of weeks back when somebody called in and asked the best car for a couple of grand for her and her kids, they recommended old Volvos, specifically the later late model 240s so now 50,000 more people are driving up the price of the bricks.
It's getting so crazy I'm thinking of listing my favorite '92 240…on second thought, naaaa..
