Assist with Emissions testing, codes
Volvo forum folks-
1989 240 DL wagon 205k miles with a check engine light on and it has been idling poorly lately- slow and bumpy, especially when warm. I’ve cleaned the idle valve (dirty) the throttle body, flame trap and put a new dist cap and rotor on. There were a couple of vacuum hoses that were brittle and I replaced them. The codes I’m pulling up are as follows:
112 Fault in ECU ugh!
113 Fault in fuel injectors
221 Fuel system compensating for extremely rich or lean running condition at cruise
231 Fuel system compensating for rich or lean running condition at cruise (same as #221?)
Thought one code was indicating an oxygen sensor but I think I’m mistaken. First, is there a way to test the ECU?
I’ve carefully read my manual about emissions problems and saw three items that might warrant testing:
Throttle Position Sensor- says a broken or loose TPS can cause unstable idle
Air Mass meter- someone told me to check this for bad idle.
EVAP system- says some symptoms of a bad EVAP system include hard hot starting or erratic idle, poor acceleration.
It looks pretty straightforward in mu manual about testing the first 2, but the EVAP I’m not clear on. But it was midnight when I was reading…As far as the codes go, do you have any idea what they indicate? Especially the “Fuel system compensating” ones. THANKS!!!
Dave
