Default Auto Transmission to Radiator Tube

The tube that runs from the automatic transmission up to the radiator is rusted through on my '91 240. The local parts supplier says that this tubing is a dealer only item. Does anyone know if this is standard tubing in which I can bend my own?

I certainly don't want to have to go to the local Volvo dealer to get something like this.

well, i dont know for a fact that its a dealer only item...as far as doing it yourself its possible if you want to try it and its cheep. i would try a few more parts places and really find out if its a deal only part.

Should be able to fab your own. But I don't know the tube size. Before that I would try a junk yard with some 240s. Those tranny cooling lines seem to last forever, except for when they chaff at the hold-down clamp

I would also recommend the junkyard. you will be able to find one in good shape, it will be a lot easier than fabbing your own and cheaper too. I'd guess you can pick up that part for less than 5 bucks.

Thanks. I decided to go ahead and try to fab my own. I'll let you know how it comes out. I had considered a junkyard but after busting two of them (I have a parts car I am swapping from), I thought that it was doubtful I could get one off of a junkyard without busting it as well. I live in the chicago area and with all the salt they use on the road here, these tubes get pretty rusty down by the transmission.

Well, I was able to find some brake line (5/8", I believe). The compression fitting was male so I had to find a union to attach it the compression fittings at the transmission and radiator.

Took some time to properly route the line - in the process ruining one, but in the end it came out pretty good and neat. No leaks!

Thanks for the help
