I've read a lot of the posts on this and it seems like most people's issue is that it won't shift into 4th at all. Mine seems to decide when it wants to get there. Sometimes is won't make it into 4th when cold, sometimes when hot. Solenoid works when it is in 4th and the light comes on, it clicks. Not sure what the issue is. Thanks.

 

Change the OD relay first.

 

If it clicks when I push the button could it still be faulty?

 

probably not - might be the solenoid too. If you have a test light and dont mind crawling around on the ground - see if there is power at the solenoid. Sometimes its just some missing insulation around the lead going into the solenoid.

 

note that the automatic OD, the dashboard light is the OPPOSITE of the solenoid. light on == solenoid off == no 4th gear. light off == solenoid on == 4th gear is enabled.

 

pull the relay and jumper pin 15 and 87 with a paper clip. then see of o/d works. that will confirm if the relay is bad or not.
