b21 timing light jumps around 1981 volvo 245
Background.... The fuel injection system was hosed by previous owners. It was so far gone I ended up doing a carb conversion. It runs, I am driving it once in a while, but it keeps popping up with issues. Yes I know.... It's a 42 year old car, I should expect this.....
I am not sure if this engine has a distributor bushing, or what would cause this. With a timing light it is constantly jumping at idle between about 12 to 20, and it's confusing..
Worthy of note. This has a "FAST" Aftermarket ignition system.
Any suggestions?

what kind of timing light are you using (ie old school where you induction clamp onto the #1 plug ? Are your power/ground connections clean? Does the idle sound smooth? What happens if you bring the car up to about 2000 rpm? Does your car have a vacuum advance to the distributor? Try disconnecting/ plugging that vacuum line before timing.
