Default B230f Crankshaft pulley torque specs 1989 740 volvo

Hello All I'm hoping to get the definitive answer here. When torguing down the front bolt on the crankshaft pulley "AKA" Harmonic damper I've read 3 different torques, 122 ft lbs from IPDauto youtube video, 170-203 ft lbs from the Haynes manual and lastly 44 ft lbs and then 60 degree turn afterwards from another poster on this Forum. The higher values are they used when using a new bolt and the lower ones when reusing the original bolt and washer or vice versa? Thanks Mike

My Haynes manual specifies 44 ft-lbs plus 60 degrees. That's what I have always done. Really darn tight.

I just use a drop of blue lock tite, and a 1/2" impact. Don't rattle it too much...just a couple of seconds....rat tat tat tat.

Hmm, how do you get the 1/2 impact in there? Unless the motor is out, there is no room!
I prefer the "feel" method, developed after too many years of wrenching. That particular bolt is in the "should be pretty tight" category! Haven't lost one yet, so it works, for me anyway...

Not sure about a 740,may be it's more confined. On my 89 240 with the fan and shroud removed, there's plenty of room for an impact. I have the IR Titanium that produces something like 750 ft.lbs.....so 2 or 3 seconds is plenty.

I use a 4 foot long pipe and crank holder tool. Then I torque-to-feel (ie guess) using my body weight and experience.

I have heard of a guy seeing his crank pulley roll across the road in front of him! He guessed the torque wrong! Ha.

Torque spec is what I call RFT. Really ****ing tight!

44 ft-lbs is NOT that much, but its the + 60 degrees part what makes it tight. thats one flat on a 6-sided bolt head.
