Hello all i have a highly modified 1979 262 that has had an engine and tranny swap. I am pretty sure it has the 240 b21 with turbo and intercooler package and now has a 4sp with overdrive button.

Today it started making a bad ticking sound and lost alot of power also idles and runs quite rough the ticking gets faster when the engine revs higher seems very bad, but the last owner said that this engine only has 20000km on it.

Anyways last week the fuel system relay went bad and left me stranded cost about 400 to have that replaced after it was done the engine idled faster but i thought nothing of it could the 2 be related? i am very worried about this ticking sound sounds bad

I had a ticking sound and, believe it or not, it was the water pump. I replaced that and the ticking went away.

 

"Ticking" could be a lot of things from a rod knock, to valves, to other things.
You paid $400 for a fuel relay? I could've sold you one for half that!
The noise is not related to the relay. Hard to diagnose it here without hearing it.
