Default Beware! New Owner! 1982 240 DL

Well just got myself a nice "Fix-er-upper" 1982 Volvo 240 DL 2 Door

wouldn't mind finding some after market stuff for it, be it from Headlights to Tail Lights.

Planning on getting a new Engine either a Chev or a Ford hopefully a 5.0L.

It may sound like i have no Clue what im talking about, well.. Its true this is my First car to actually put time and effort into it, any Advise would be greatly appreciated.

He heard it's a cheap way to make big power in the volvos. In reality, look to spend 1200 and up to do a swap properly with a decent motor.

Well, what you have is a tough, heavy rear-wheel-drive car with a stiff frame, overbuilt suspension and a capacious engine compartment, so you've picked a good car for the swap. This is just my aesthetics talking but I wouldn't go overboard with the aftermarket appearance upgrades. But one of the things Volvo tuners like to do is swap out their hoods and grills, the 75-76 240s and 242s through 1980 came with flat hoods which you can fit in place of the humped hood you have now, and you can pretty much swap in any headlight and grill combination you want for a unique look, it's all interchangeable on the pre-1986 cars, and the eurostyle headlamps are pretty easy to get and look really cool, we didn't get those in America because sealed beam headlights were still required over here back then. As far as tailights go, you might be able to find lenses that have clear turn signal lenses instead of amber, but aside from that there really aren't a lot of options. You might be stuck with the ones you have now.

well its still good to hear, I dont want a Body kit or Spoiler Id rather it not look like a Ricer, but a new grill and New tail/headlights would be nice, and Maybe, just maybe a hood scoop

Quick question, the Dashboard well the middle console is there a effective and or easy way to swap some of the components around because right now my CD Player is right at the bottom right in front of the stick shift any tips or tricks on replacing and or Swapping the components around?

I thought they'd moved the radio by '82, my radio is just ahead of the shifter too. Well, if you have the more modern dashboard like this then you can easily remove the dummy panels above the center vents and install the radio there, but if you have the older-style dashboard like mine then there really isn't anywhere else to put it. I'm not sure why they put the radio there, it seems like it was a bit of an afterthought being as without the radio it's a felted cubby hole, and all the brochures picture the interior without a radio at all.
