Default blowing smoke

I've a 94 volvo 940 wagon and I've spent the last two days looking around for information on this issue. First I will discuss the issue. Then I will mention the possible sources of my issue.

I've got large amounts of smoke coming from my exhaust. It has a blue tinge to it and smokes hard when I step on the gas. There is also small amount of smoke coming from the dipstick as well as the flange that connects the exhaust to the turbo and manifold. The fun does not stop here. I can see oil where the turbo is connected to the exhaust and there seems to be a lot building up underneath. There is also oil in the intake tube from the turbo all the way back to the intake.

Upon doing research I have found a lot of responses pointing towards the PCV systems. I managed to check the hoses. They are clear and certainly not as soaked as the intake hose. But I have not checked the box because I have a feeling the problem resides in the turbo because I found a response on another site pointing out that the turbo may be blown or clogged.

Could the PCV system be so badly clogged that it would build up and shoot out both the exhaust and the intake of the turbo? Or is the turbo seens it's days?

It will probably be the PCV box is bad. Try cleaning it out...Or if really bad, just buy a new one.

Turbo might be a problem.
Check for shaft play. spin the wheel, and wiggle the shaft to check for play.

My bet is the turbo oil seals are shot and you need a rebuild. The oil leaks past the turbo oil seal under load and collects in the intake line and then gates sucked back into the intake manifold.

The turbo is toast, sorry. I had the same thing happen to my turbo on my 940. Between the PCV being clogged and putting SeaFoam in my oil, the turbo seals blew out. The car smoked so bad that the neighbors thought my car was on fire and called the fire company.

Well I pulled the intake off and cleaned the pcv. Although it was not clogged. I'm working my way back through the intake line cleaning the oil out. The next will be to pull the turbo off and have it looked at.

I'm impressed at how much oil sits inside the intake.

LOL!!!

well there is about 2/16 of an inch movement from side to side. She's toasty!

What are some of the best options from here out?

Better yet, what is the turbo model in the 94 940's?

There should be a tag (red or green in color) telling you the model number...

if I had to get a new turbo, I would talk to tryingbe over at turbobricks.com
He is a turbo parts dealer, and can hook you up with descent prices. even upgraded turbos.

Junk yard is another place, check out the turbos, amke sure they are good to run and get it. should be ~$70.
