I just purchased a 1990 240

now, the brake lights will not work, fuse was blown


any ideas, all bulbs are good

 

Make sure the Fuse box is very clean and try again.If it blows again the I would look at the switch first if that is fine then look at the printed circuit board for the taillights.

 

i will try the switch

do i need to sand the fuse holders
all the other lights work.

tail, turn, reverse

 

Clean it up any ways and put some dielectric grease on the connections.
Check for power to the switch.Then check the other side with the pedal pushed down.

 

Yes check the switch at the brake pedal assmb. I've personally had to fix mine on my junk Honda several times (Volvo does have a superior design) But the switch can always go bad, that sometimes happens. I agree check the fuse also to verify that it does indeed have a good connection.
