Default Brake lights

So I have a guy stop me at a red light last night and tell me my brake lights aren't working. The one in the rear window works, but the main brake lights are not operating. Here's the thing: the filaments in both bulbs are intact (so the bulbs are fine) and the brake lights fuse is intact (so the fuse is fine).

What else should I check before plunking down my cash to have a diagnostic ran? I don't know if this helps, but my passenger window does not work, though the other three work just fine.

I have a 90 240 and the same thing happened to me. The wiring piece that between the two top lights would turn the lights on when I messed with it. Now mine work fine. But I'm not sure if they will for long. But that wiring may be the key...

I'll give that a try, but this is my 3rd 240 and a sad lesson I've learned: when the electrical system starts acting hinky, start looking for a new car.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a shot.

Most likely the circuit boards or the plug. Clean connections on both and see if they work.

I went by the junk lot today and pulled the circuit boards from an '89 240 and swapped them out with mine. No dice. The funny thing is the top row of lights (turn signal, back up, etc.) work. I'm trying to get it in to a service guy take a look at it. If I ever find out what's wrong, I'll post on here to help the next person scratching their head! [8D]

Mine was the circut board.

Got new lenses, lamps, lamp sockets, & circuts here real cheap!
