Brake rattling
Hello all, I have recently come across a problem with my brake pads rattling after I changed the pads a little while ago. I suspected the anti rattle clips and was right when I changed the clip on the driver side. I has silence for a week, but had the obnoxious rattling come up again. The clips that I ordered from the auto parts store came in packs of 2 from the factory so I just swapped the clips out. That worked for a few days and the rattling is back again. I am getting very frustrated at the noise when I am driving and just might order new clips from another source. Any ideas?
Did you service the caliper slide pins when you did the brake job? Those "anti rattle clips", there are not really that... more like retainers. Did you use anti squeal stuff on the shims? If all was done right, you should not be having a rattle, even without the clips.
local 'auto parts stores' rarely have any part I'd want to install on a european car, other than oil, antifreeze, wiper blades, and such.
what kind of brake pads did you use?

For the first question, I checked the slides and they were just fine and moved with ease so I didn't grease them and I didn't use anti squeal stuff. And for the second question, I used the mid grade, ceramic brake pads.
Regardless of the brand, the new pads should not rattle; they may squeal but not rattle... I use anti squeal backing, but again, not related to rattling... Volvos, as straight forward as they are, use different brakes suppliers and sometimes that creates confusion.
