broken hood release: how do I get it open?

Default broken hood release: how do I get it open?
My hood release cable seems to have broken or come loose at the latch end. I've tried to get the grill out and get at it, but stopped before I got hacked off and broke it. How can I pop the hood open?

You should be able to either go through the grill to hit the release or go from under the car.
