Default Broken Key Fob - can't turn off alarm!

Hi,

The key fob to my Volvo 940 has stopped working (i've tried changing the batteries etc.), so I cannot turn the alarm off or unlock the doors. Obviously I can use the key to get into the car, but that's of no use as the alarm will go off. Can anyone suggest any way that I can turn off/disable the alarm? Help would be greatly appreciated! PM me if you don't want to reveal to the world a sneaky way to turn off the alarm

Thank you!!!

Are you in the U.S. market?
If so then the 940 didn't have a factory alarm and it must be aftermarket.

Sorry, I should have been clearer about it shouldn't I.

It's a '94 940 estate, bought in the UK with a factory-fitted Volvoguard alarm.

Ok sorry I can't help then.
But I would think there would be a sensor that if you used the key the alarm would turn off.

Most alarm systems can be turned off when using the key. Usually there is a small toggle switch under the driver's side (where your legs go) tucked up somewhere. Obviously you need to find the switch first. I had an aftermarket Viper alarm installed in my 940 when it was new and I relocated the toggle switch they installed and put in a black rocker just like the other switches, right on the dash. It could only be turned off when using the key so why not make it convienient for the user! A call to a dealer could help locate a switch - Good luck.
