Default buying an '83 240

Please tell me if this is a good deal or am I getting taken?

Friend at work is trying to sell me a 1983 240, non-turbo, 2 door, 220,000 miles, 5 spd, A/C works great. Says there is no rust, (Texas Car), and that it's mechanically perfect. He paid $5000 3 years ago when it had 204k. He says he paid so much because the car had just gotten a complete steering and suspension overhaul by our local Volvo repair shop. Says the engine runs perfect, does not smoke or leak, new tires, blah blah blah. I can get it for $2500.

Please advise.

Oh yeah, I do trust the guy and he has all the repair history since it was new. Also, is there anything particular to this model that I should look at when I check it out?

Take him down in price. $2000 for a super clean 240 with a new supsension is a good deal, well if they put in good products. it is not the turbo model, so you can get it for less.

We got our 82 244T for $1800. Very clean, good title, interior spotless, minus the surface cracks in the leather only 147,000miles.

I know you can find some good deals on these cars....Keep looking through Craigslist.

I also agree on making a comment "sight unseen"! I am with TIPSP in checking on Craigslist. I check every day and found one last week for $500. The people were hit hard with the economy and sold their car. It had all papers since 85 and is in top running order. I think 2 grand is ok, but it needs to be C L E A N !! great paint, etc.... I think you should hold off and keep looking.... You'd be surprised what you will find! Good Luck in your search!
