Default A/C Recirculation not working

Hi everyone, new member here so I apologize if this has been addressed before. I have a 1992 940 GL I just purchased. While the a/c is running, I can smell odors coming from outside of the car. I tried the recirc button. When I press it, I hear a hiss but still have outside air coming in. I was told the actuator for the door could be bad. Where on the car is the door/actuator located? Thanks in advance.

The door for recirc on a 240 is located deep behind the center console - between the center console and the firewall. You have to remove the side panel of the center console on the passenger side and use a flashlight to peek back there. In my experience, when the actuator fails it fails with the recirc vent door open - meaning it recirculates all the time.
