Default Cam timing

Hi all,

Just in the process of doing the cambelt. Got it all stripped down, got the pulley off. Just looking at the markings, the bottom pulley... How does it locate on the crankshaft? There is a cut out for what looks like it should slide into a woodruff key or something similar.

You can see on the pulley where it has been fitted but from what I can see there is nothing that will locate it. As there is a marking for timing the engine there has got to be a way of locating it in a set place..

Just another addition...

Fitted the belt, the cam and dizzy pulley marks line up on the belt. The double mark for the crank doesn't line up with any mark on the crank gear pulley, which one is it suppose to line up with?

Thanks,

It looks like the crankshaft guide pin has sheared off. Remove the guide plate from the crankshaft sprocket and see if you can get the remnant out.

This:

shows a little more clearly the process and marks. Scroll down to: Now Here! (A step by step guide to changing the timing belt....)

I've had a look today at the crank pulley timing gear. It looks like at some point the crank pulley has worked its way loose, spun and worn the nub down used for locating the pulley.

So I marked the pulley and on the timing gear and used that to line it up.

Since doing the cambelt I have noticed that the idle speed has increased... not sure why. Going to set up the ignition timing see if that's the issue. Also the idle isn't smooth, never has been you can see the engine rocking at idle

Thanks for the help!
Dan
