can anyone tellme what the part in the center of the picture is. The car is a 1993 volvo 940 turbo wagon i cant find it in any part diagrams online. it is connected to a hose that runs into the oil trap and the other end appears to run in the firewall. on the top it has a vaccum line connected to it but the line is broke an i cant find where it ran to. any help would be super appreciated

thats tucked in behind the head next to the firewall? that looks like a heater valve, there's a couple different styles people use...

pics of the original style, late model VDO, and the cheap chevy replacement valve.

they all work, until they don't. I replaced mine with the VDO style.

the vacuum line comes through the firewall from the heater control panel in the center console, and it opens/closes the water valve to the heater core.

if you need to replace the heater valve, I highly recommend replacing the heater hoses at the same time, as they tend to get neglected, and if they burst, you lose all your coolant and overheat in a hurry, and if you don't shut it down immediately, you can blow your head gasket and even crack your head.
