Default Can I replace front shocks myself?

89 240 DL wagon, really soft mushy ride. Need shocks. Rear I'm sure are easy, what about fronts, could I handle it? Any suggestions on good shocks to purchase? Dave

Default RE: Can I replace front shocks myself?

yes you can! you unbolt the two bolts that hold the lower balljoint on, mark and remove the three that hold unit to inner fender. You might also have to undo tie rod end and pop apart with tie rod separator. (Consult manual I do not remember) Now you will need good spring compressors and clamps to hold it to spring and handle removed shock spring unit like it is a bomb. If you are careless it can kill or shoot the spring around the garage scaring everybody. Compress spring undo end of shock and unit comes apart. Set spring and spring compressers away from you in suitable container (drum, empty garbage pail) unscrew end of upright, remove old shock. Assembly is reverse. Do not get it wrong. It is easier than it sounds.
