I am trying to get the tail lights/brake lights on my roommates 87 240 wagon to work, but can't seem to come to a solution at all. All the connections are good and the wiring is fine as far as I can trace it. I changed the fuses and checked all the connections there, and everything seems in tact. I looked under the hood and there are a couple wires that seemed melted, but I am not sure where these wires lead too, I have included pictures of the frayed wires, they run from the battery and go off right next to the windshield wiper fluid box.

 

Additional question: On my 86 volvo 240 wagon the drivers side tail lights blows a fuse every time I turn the car on, any ideas on this issue?

 

relay for the lights...it is on the passenger side...inside the ac unit....white color...four prong....

take out the panel covering the guts of the ac unit and you will be able to see the white relay...

OTHER POSSIBILITY...
the brake pedal has a switch that might go bad...stick your head by the brake pedal...I mean really bend like a snake and see the little switch push out when you press the brake...good luck
