Default Can someone tell me what this is????And answer a question

I have included a picture with this post. It has a big hole in it. Also has a vacuum hose attached. I have a rough idle and I am trying to solve it. The car has a new cap and rotor, Plug wires, Plugs are okay, has new in tank pump and fuel filter, air filter is okay don't know where else to go.

But I am thinking this might be a problem. I have tried pinching the line that goes to it but no change. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Looks like a vacuum reservoir, a broken one. Trace the hose and see where it leads to, pinching doesn't always seal it completely so try plugging the nipple where it's attached. Have you used the carb cleaner method of searching for other vacuum leaks yet?

Well I'll take a guess.....Is that circuit boards in the pic?Could be part of the cruise control.
Rough idle could be a number of things, vacuum leak, dirty Iac valve, throttle body dirty, need more information.Year model of car?

It's a 79 242dl with 2.1 engine CIS injection(at least I think it is CIS I know it is fuel injected). Where is the Iac valve???? If you look in the hole its not a circuit board. It's kind of hard to make out but it but there are some metal peices and a spring????

What is the carb cleaner method for finding leaks???

Your car doesn't use a Iac valve(idle air control) it uses a auxiliary air control valve, kinda does the same thing.Remove the aux valve, spray in carb cleaner let it set for a few minuets and repeat several times. Check out the link at the bottom of post,it has a lot of info on the K-jet system.

Spray the carb cleaner around the intake gasket,if idle changes up or down you may have a bad gasket, also spray all you vacuum lines see idle changes.
