car just wont start
hey guys. my 1986 240 died on the freeway. just literally died doing a constant 65. now car wont start and when i put the ignition on second position i cant hear the pump whirring. i've changed the intank and external pump, fuel pump relay, checked the wiring, jumped the pumps, and still nothing. pumps work and they're spanking new. now i checked the electronic control unit and the wiring is fine there but im thinking that might be where my problem lies. i heard that when the engine shuts off the ecu stops the pumps from running. i think that might be my problem or maybe the ecu itself. now what i want to know is if there is anyway to reboot the ecu or would i have to get a brand new one? any other suggestions as to what might be the problem to my car is also welcome. thanks to the tech for helping me find out a bunch of stuff already. it was great advice.

I wouldn't jump at the ECU yet, doesn't it get a signal to stop the pump from a sensor?
Mine (740) has the flywheel sensor TPS, if the engine isn't turning the 'puter shuts the pump down.
Yours might have the sensor on the distributor a hall effect thingy on the side...with wires that break.
no?
