Default Changing Transmission Bushing

I am going to replace my transmission bushing on my 1990 Volvo DL. I read where I am going to have to remove my drive shaft. Is this going to be difficult? Is there anything special I should know.

Removing the drive shaft isn't too difficult. 4 bolts in the front, 4 in the rear, two to remove the center carrier. I doubt that you have to unbolt the rear to do this job though.

Just make sure that you mark the position of the shaft to where it mates to the transmission. Same on the rear where it mates to the differential. If you take the two shafts apart, make sure that you mark how they go back together.

Good luck

Sorry, I meant the tail shaft bushing. My Bently Manual does not show how where the bushing is or how to replace this. I found an article for the Volvo 740 Turbo.

I think it will be easiest for me to to get the bushing out(without damaging anything) if I remove that inner housing.

For my 1990 Volvo 240,

Do I need to remove rear transmission linkage from the extension housing and disconnect the wireing harness?

Will I need to remove the speed o meter cable?

And, finally...I'm a amateur. However, the modifcations I have done myself are: new oxygen sensor, radiator thermostat, oil changes, and new rear coils. Is this something I can do myself?

Thanks,
-Darin

Are you trying to track down the source of vibration? What makes you say your tailshaft bushing is going bad?
