Learned the hard way that traditional brake light bulbs will melt the plastic in the aftermarket taillight housing I put in my 240 wagon. Luckily the guys at Voluparts in Atl gave me a new one... still not cheap at around $80. Though I did have to cough up the $10 for the new LED bulbs. Slowly but surely, I'm moving from newbie to knowbie.

 

I have been thinking about doing the same thing, converting to LED lamps. A couple of questions come to mind.

If you converted the turn signals, did you have to alter the flasher in any way?

Did you have to modify the brake lamp circuit in any way to fool the bulb failure circuit?

Hey fellow Georgian -

The only LEDs I've put in (so far) are the two brake lights. It was a simple switch out with the new bulbs. I was told that those were the ones that generated the most heat. I'm guessing the turn signals, etc. are just as easy, but you might want to double check on that.

 

I have been running LED brake bulbs and rear fog light bulbs for ages now, no issues.
WIth indicators, you'll likely need to bypass the bulb failure relay (instructions online) and use an electronic relay suited to the LED's.

A friend of mine said to look for ones made in Estonia vs China. Because, of course, they're known for their quality reproductions.

Mine was around $80 from Voluparts in Atl. The look and fit were great. And now, with the LED bulbs, I'm confident I won't have any more melting issues.
