Clicking Brakes, Girling Calipers, Missing shim?

Clicking Brakes, Girling Calipers, Missing shim?
Can anyone tell me if there should be 2 metal shims (also called retaining clips) on each front brake caliper?
I have a 1992 740 wagon. When I took off the caliper recently to perform a routine brake pad change I discovered there was only 1 metal shim/retaining clip per caliper (front left and front right girling calipers).
I thought this was odd but the car had been braking fine prior to my discovery (no clicking). My pads were wearing thin and needed replacing. However, once I installed new pads on the front I noticed some CLICKING whenever the brake pedal is depressed.
I cannot seem to figure out what is causing the clicking and the only thing I can ascertain is that both calipers have only 1 metal shim/retaining clip each. If I take the pads and reseat them the clicking goes away for 100 or 200 miles then comes back.
Here's a picture of a brake caliper from FCP Euro. This caliper clearly shows 2 metal shims/retaining clips. However, my vehicle only has 1 per caliper.

I lubed the caliper guide pins and the pads. I'm fairly certain this isn't the caliper cylinder - however I'm considering just replacing the calipers with the FCP Euro caliper above (see link).
Does anyone know if these calipers are supposed to have 2 shims/retaining clips? Anyone out there have a 740 wagon that has only 1 per caliper?

I'll update with some photos soon. There's a place for 2 of these metal 'retainer clips' or 'shims' on opposing ends of the caliper bracket. Searching online turns up very little useful images so I'll provide some of my own shortly. Thanks Lev.
Here's a link to these 'retainer clips' I'm talking about:

I see what you mean. I was looking at the shiny clip in the middle, so I wondered where the second such clip would go. Now, at second look, do these go at each end of the caliper and serve as spacers between the caliper and the mounting bracket? Then yes, two would be needed even though I don't remember having issues with these shims. I should go and look at my cars, I have three 92s, a 90 and a 94, but you know...
