Control panel lights

Control panel lights
Hi new member here, 93 245 I've had for about five years. I've fixed a lot of little quirky things on this car and somehow it makes me love it more which I get the feeling a lot of you understand! I'm wondering about interior lights, are there bulbs to illuminate the control panel? I can't see any of them at night and was wondering if I'm missing bulbs, possibly under the coin holder below the vents. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Yes - there are bulbs to illuminate the instrument cluster as well as the controls on the center console (temperature control, fan control, etc). There is a **** to the left of the instrument cluster (above the headlight switch) that controls the brightness of all of the dash lights. Try adjusting this to make sure they aren't turned all the way down.
Is it only the instument cluster not working or are both the instrument cluster and center console lights out as well?

Hi The instrument cluster lights and the rheostat for dimming them both work fine. The control panel is practically unseeable at night though the switch lights for the AC etc. all work when engaged. I think I can see where the bulbs would go and they seem to be completely missing. Does anyone know what type of bulb goes in there?

If you have the center console apart, look around in the maze of wires in there. Chances are they were never pressed back into place when someone had the center console apart in the past. Turn on the headlights (with the key on of course) and check if there are any bulbs glowing in there. They are tiny bulbs that just press into plastic cylindrical sockets. The sockets then just press into the faceplate. I forget how many bulbs there are - 3 or 4 of them. Looking at the faceplate should give you a clue as to how many bulbs there should be.
Good luck
