Default Coolant Leak.

Hi,

New to this site. I got a 90' 240 DL with a coolant leak.

I found the leak. It's coming from what Haynes calls a Coolant Bypass Tube.
It's a red steel tube that runs from the heater core along the right side of the engine and ports into the water pump. And its got two tabs to bolt it to the engine and the pump.

I can't find much information about this accept for in a description on how to remove the water pump.

I cannot find this part anywhere. Has anyone got some good info on either a.)how to patch this leak?
or
b.)where to find the part?

Thanks in advance.

MM

The metal line has a leak? Or is it where it meets the pump?

Take it to a local machine shop and they could probably weld it up for a couple of bucks, then get it painted.

Man I don't know but it seem like there is nothing nowadays for a couple of bucks.

So I did manage to get a part number from a local volvo mechanic: 13320332. (If anyone is interested.) I guess I can get the part from a dealer for about $60.

But I like the welding idea.

For now I got a bicycle tube wrapped around the pipe with some hose clamps. That seems to inhibit the leak severely. Not much coolant loss now. Almost none for now. I'd leave it that way but im not sure how that bike tube will hold up under the heat over time.

Still taking ideas if anyone's got em.

Thanks again.

Call around. Look for a small machine shop, or some one who knows someone with a welder. I could get it done for free around here.

Thanks,

I actually have a few friends with shops who could weld it. i also teach at an art school so there's the possibility of bringing it to the sculpture studio.
