EcoBoost (or other modern-day) Engine Swap: Is It Possible?
Hi all,
A new and excited member of the Volvo community with a '92 240 Sedan here. I'm considering an engine swap on down the road. I know small-block V8s are very common and doable. I have found a 2018 1.0L Ford Ecosport Engine for sale in my area. The dreamer in me imagines the ability to reach similar levels of torque with better efficiency and lower weight from this motor compared to a crate small-block.
Does anyone here know if this is even reasonably possible let alone for a decent price?

you'd need custom engine mounts, retrofit the ford transmission and its probably electronic shifting linkage, you'd need custom exhaust headers..... you'd need to figure out how to integrate the Ford engine management electronics with the rest of the volvo... with a significantly lighter engine, you'll need to find lighter springs for the front end to keep the suspension reasonably level.
engine swaps are a big project.

I would check to see how well the aftermarket support is for that engine. There are controllers that run many engines, but when you get to the one offs, support can be tough. I plan on putting a V8 in mine at some point in the near future..
