Default electric radiator fan not coming on

Last week my temperature gauge started to move up so I pulled over and opened the hood and I could smell something electrical burning from the engine compartment. It turned out to be coming from the motor of the electric fan and the fan was not running. I replaced it with an original and everything was good until yesterday. Yesterday the car started to over heat again and the fan is not working. I checked the wires and I don't see anything burnt. I would like to know if there is a relay or thermostat that controls the fan or if it could be something else, thanks.

OK I found where the relay is. It is the small black box where the electric fan plugs into but I can't seem to figure out what sends it the signal to come on or off. My radiator has a plug where the temperature switch would normally go.

at the bottom of the A/C condenser (I can't remember which side, but I think its the left side?), there's a several inch long horizontal manifold with 3 pressure sensors sticking out of it. they are color coded, the green one is low speed, the brown (center) one is high speed. if your car is LH 2.4, the ECU can also override teh fan low or high speed, and if its Regina, THEN you have that coolant temp sensor on the upper right back of the radiator, for high or low, depending if its early or late regina...

Thanks Pierce, I think I have found the culprit. The wire that goes to the battery is loose where it crimps to the wire terminal. I am going to cut the wire, crimp on a new wire terminal and see if the problem goes away.

Well it looks like the loose wire going into the wire terminal was the problem. It was also causing the tip of the wire to heat up and burn. I wouldn't doubt if that caused the original cooling fan to burn up due to a possible voltage drop.
