engine dont start
hello just finish doing a head job on 1990 240 DL , everything connected like before now car wont start. when key is turned dash lights up as usual but engine dose nt turn over. i checked fuses thy're fine, swap battery, what else can i check to solve this problem.
its turning over briskly, but not starting? or its not turning over?
to start, an engine needs fuel, it needs spark, and it needs to be mechanically setup right (cam shaft in phase, and so forth).
assuming its turning over, after a few cranks, I'd pull a spark plug or two, and see fi they are wet with fuel. if they are, its an ignition problem. if not, then there's no fuel and maybe no spark. hooking a timing light up to the #1 spark plug wire would tell you if there is spark. if there's no fuel OR spark, I'd be looking at the hall sensor in the distributor and its wiring, as if there's no pulses from that, then there's no spark OR fuel.
otherwise, well, I'd make sure the fuel injection side of the fuel pump relay is getting turned on with the ignition switch, and providing power to the fuel injection. or if its on the spark side, I'd be checking that the power stage is getting pulses from the ICU, and those are being passed on to the coil (a test light can be handy for this).
