hello all. i'm a newbie here. I have a 1983 245 Turbo and just failed my smog check in CA. i'm told i need a new catalytic converter. can anyone recommend a good one to buy, i.e., OEM or aftermarket, brand, etc.

also, what is the average price of the part and labor? because the state of CA is paying $500 of the repairs, I think I'm being ripped off by the mechanic. she quoted me $975 for parts and labor. i don't know what brand/model/size of the part is. my personal Volvo mechanic says it should only cost about $400 or less for the cat plus labor. IPD lists it for $495. am i being ripped off or does this sound right? please help!
