Default It finally blew.

My 89 740 GL at 416K finally blew the head gasket. So now comes the decision to either fix it or send it to salvage. It doesn't look like to big a job but if the head is warped it may be the final straw. Car is in great shape but if I just do a headgasket it may last another 50K as it has the old wrist pin knock for years. I'm thinking about the next move . I assume OEM Volvo head gaskets are the way to go.

If it didn't overheat the head did not warp. I have had good luck with various non oem gaskets, no big deal. Easy job overall.

Worst case scenario, replace the head, or put a salvage engine in it and motor on. Engines can be had for $500 or so dollars. That is way too nice a car to scrap.
