Pretty hard. Better to sell the nonturbo and buy a turbo, will cost you much less.

You will have to get the ECU/ICU from the turbo model and wire harness, as well as new exhaust, IC and IC Pipes....etc.
Like tedv said it would be cheaper to get a turbo model.

Yeah, the740 models are becoming harder and harder to find. I have only seen a few for sale in Cali (USA).
If youcan get the 940 motor for a good price then I would just swap them, but you will need the supporting ECU/ICU....etc.

Well if you do want to turbo it. you will need to get these things (list from s70driver).
1. Turbo 2. Downpipe 3. Catback 4. Injectors 5. Charge pipes 6. Turbo hoses 7. Vacuum lines 8. Hose clamps 9. Intercooler
10. MOST IMPORTANTLY, a major ECU tune. And I am not talking about IPD, RICA, BSR, etc... I am talking dyno tuning to properly get the right tune.
11. Drill hole in the block for oil return line. 12. ETC...

But if you do this, you wont be able to run that high of boost, unless you change the CR to ~8 instead of your CR 10.

You would have to find a shop to do it, unless you know how to. Depending on theshop, they should be able to doa custom step for you. Expect to pay$3-$10,000+.
If you want to do it yourself, check this out: http://www.ipdusa.com/tm-18it is for a 240, but it ispretty muchthe same idea.

What you will need:
1. Turbo
2. Downpipe
3. Catback
4. Turbo Injectors
5. Intercooler
6.Exhaust manifold
7. Hi-Tuning.com chips for your ECU/ICU to run your +T setup
8. Drill a hole in the block for oil return line
there might be more things but I cant think of them right now.

Didnt Turbo Models also come with a different Rear Gear for more low end until the Turbo Spooled up?

Also, You'll need the intire Turbo intake hose setup, like that huge filter box, the hose from it to the turbo, with the MAFS in it.

I got my 1990 740Turbo for 250 dollars, 149,000 original miles, had a totally cooked turbo and the interior was trashed, both caused by a careless teenaged girl owner. Put a new turbo on it, had the entire interior redone, new Moon Roof, and painted it, and Darned if it isnt a slick ride.

It should mount to your trans.
If you get that car or a turbo model, it might be easier to swap the transmission instead of swaping themotor to your SE.
You will have to use the clutch from a turbo model if you go turbo.
You should check out turbobricks for they mess with this stuff all the time.

I have an '88 740 turbo. it's got overdrive problems and a crack in the exhaust manifold, but its still a solid ride. family's been driving it since new. almost 280k miles, but whats wrong are the only things not replaced. would you be interested?

The only really smart way to do a swap like this is to buy a donor car, otherwise you'll forever be chasing up this and that, brackets etc that you need but don;t have a clue what they look like.
The problem with buying a donor car is, why not just fix teh donor car instead of pouring money into teh other?
Seriously, drive what you have now, save your money, be patient (I know that's hard when you're young) and buy the next turbo you see.

Regards, Andrew.
