Default Fixing Compressed bumper on 1988 Volvo 240

Hi there -

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to pull out the bumper on a 1988 Volvo 240 DL wagon? I'm sure it's pretty straightforward, but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions?

I'm also trying to fix a lot of the loose trim around the car. Any suggestions for epoxy or anything else?

Thanks!

Keith

If they are stuck in that probably means they are bad. I would go to a junk yard and pull a set off a car sitting there and replace them. For safety reasons.

3M Trim Adhesive works good.

Default Replacing Bumpers

Okay - so any suggestions as to how to replace a bumper?

I am just handy enough to get this done by myself, but suggestions and tips are very welcome.

What is "compressed"? The shocks or the plastic?

The whole bumper is compressed on one side on both the front and the back bumper. It's not really squashed in all the way, just a few inches. Not sure what kind of accidents the previous owner got into, but there are minor bonks all around this car.

So - the rear bumper, for example, is halfway compressed on the passenger's side. The front bumper is also slightly compressed on the passenger's side. In addition, the light assembly and the front grill are a bit out of line. I think that I can fix them and get them put back into place, tho'.

another, more dangerous option, you can drill a hole in both shocks til the gas expels, then put the car against a building and push the bumpers in using the motor. Then you'll have that tucked Bumper look that was popular about 10 years ago.

The "shocks" that compress are not supposed to be decompressed even though I have seen it done which results in their reduced efficiency. I'd go to a junkyard and get them there for cheap-they are plentiful in just about any "pull-your-own-part".

reduced efficiency? They flat out don't work when compressed. Hence why I said dangerous option.
