Default Freon question

The other day I spent $200.00 and recharged my AC on my 240 1990 DL. For about a week it was really cold and it was awsome. But the past couple of days it feels like it is not cold anymore on a consistent basis. They did a freon leak check when I got more freon and no leaks were found. Is it possible that a leak could of sprang later or am I just getting used to the AC?

Make sure the fan is coming on.
How hot is it outside?

Wait for the experts to get.

Well, both are possible... but most likely a SLOW leak is the cause... Common mistake is when someone says, "oh, it just needs a little charge". No such thing. An A/C will not "discharge" unless there is a leak somewhere, and AC leaks are hard to find-you can fill them up and all is good for a time, then, gas is gone...

If you had to get more freon for the system to cool properly then where did the original charge go? Were you charged to service the vehicle again? theoretically the service tech is not allowed to service a leaking system. Did they check the evaporator drain area for freon leaks? old evaporators will leak inside the heater/evaporator housing and vent out the evaporator drain usually located by the frame rail. Also the system requires air flow over the condensor unit to be efficient so the a/c will blow cooler when you have forward momentum, thus the need for the electric fan to aid in cooling during periods of stop and go driving. Did they put a flourescent dye in the freon when they charged it last?

they charged me $12.00 for the dye for the freon, so I can only assume they looked for the leak. man, this one gotten me pretty scared since ac systems are so expensive.

Default black light

You can look for the leak yourself with a standard black light, the dye they put in with the freon will fluoresce (glow)under black light. if you check all the connections of the flexible hoses where they go into the reciever dryer and the condensor located in front of the radiator and the compressor fittings and they are clean...then most likely your evaporator is leaking.
