Default Flame Trap

Hey,

So I have a 1986 244, I have some extra oil build up around the engine and I heard that this could be from a clogged flame trap? Is this right and can anyone walk me through this I haven't work on this part before. Pictures please if you can.

and where is it located? under the intake manifold? Picture?

Thanks

Thanks man, I can always count on you to give me a possible answer on this forum.

Ill have to check the flame trap out asap.

I have another question for you guys thought, this weekend I did the engine and transmission mount on my '86. Before that the car was idling rough, now its even worse. I know its because of the new mounts are harder but I really need to start looking into this. So i have been thinking about the system as a whole and working backwards. Any thoughts on what the issue is?

rough idle could be due to a bunch of things. get the engine in good baseline condition first, good plugs, wires, rotor, cap, make sure the timing is correct (12 degrees BTDC at idle). make sure all your vacuum hoses are good, clean the throttle body and ensure the throttle idle switch is working. if that still doesn't fix it, I'd check the idle air control valve next, its under the intake manifold, and acts as a throttle bypass at idle, to fine tune the RPMs, they get gummed up.

btw, re the flametrap, ipdusa sells a kit to move it up so its more accessible.
