front hub seal question
working on an 84 240 wagon, i noticed excessive slack in both front wheel bearings, so i decided to replace them. the right side went together normally, though i noticed that the seal i removed from inboard of the inner bearing seemed to be missing the rubber sealing lip that most of them have. the specified seal fit, so i assembled it as normal.
the left side was similar, except that the bore for the seal was larger, and the old seal fell out with the bearing as i pulled it off the spindle. it was found to have a good 1/16" of size difference between the seal and its bore. the new seal was the same as the old one.
so i took the right hub off my 91 parts car, and found it having the same style of seal as the first hub had, but in the size of this second hub. i removed it by driving the bearing out, and it came out unharmed, so i installed it over the new bearings.
does anybody know about the CORRECT seals for this application?
