Default Front seat switcheroo

Hear tell that the front seats in this car are interchangable. If I switch them will there be holes in upholstery where the old electric switches were mounted? 940SE Wagon.

Left to right? No.
Among model years, yes.

From the switches, no. There will be quarter size holes where the lumbar adjustment ***** were. Those are easily covered up with some vinyl from the inside.

Just realized that the pass seat has the same problem, non-reclining seat back, so switching won't do me much good. I need to fix this soon, the person who owned the car prior must have had very short arms

Sorry, you mean what's the problem with the seats or what's the problem with me fixing them . The seat backs on both front seats do not move, they each make a sort of a subliminal grumble is all, and I can feel a slight thump if I keep persisting in pushing the buttons. As for me fixing them, I've read a tutorial involving rolling the seat covering up on the seat backs, replacing the hog rings with zip ties, something about shortening the sheath on the cable, all a bit vague but will have to do it as soon as I get some of the things I've already started, finished.

on the plus side, *ANY* seats for any 740/760/940/960/S90/V90 will bolt into the car, and the seat side trim from yours will fit on most any of those. there's a couple version seatbelts, but they all can bolt to any seat frame. there's a couple versions of the wiring for the seatbelt buckle latch (that silences the warning chime), again, yours will bolt to any of the seats. afaik, seat heater wiring is consistent between all cars.

there were some changes in the power seat connectors between the generations. if you want MY opinion, loose the power seats, find some 740/940 manual seats the right color in good condition and install those.

I agree, but will give it a shot on the repair first. Eastern European in Seattle wants 200+ to fix the seat back.

Your seats are probably just stuck/jammed due to non use... I bet if you disassemble them and loosen things up that there will be fine. These seats are a marvel of engineering and may seem quite complicated if one goes in ***** nilly but with proper plan and patience they are quite easy to manage. If you are having trouble with just the recline part, the motor/cables are on the actual backrest and the cover will have to come off. If they don't recline though, you'll have hard time getting to the metal rings, so the bottom cushion will have to come off which is pretty easy. Brickboard.com has a great FAQ sections that covers the seats... Good Luck!
