Default fuel/exhaust odor inside cabin of car

I have a 1991 240, about 250K on it.

Last week I removed, cleaned and then replaced the following:
- air intake
- mass air flow sensor
- throttle body
- idle air control
- flame trap
- oil separator

I also thoroughly cleaned all related hoses, connections, etc.

I used a ton of carb cleaner, especially with the throttle body and oil separator. I used specialty MAF cleaner for the MAF sensor.

Maybe it's coincidence, maybe I did something. There is now a fuel/exhaust odor inside the car, and it must be strong because my sense of smell is not too great.

Any thoughts? Ideas? Did I dislodged something? Is there a hose that is causing it? I have no idea and would greatly appreciate any help. In the meantime I am re-disassembling all of the above and checking everything out tonight.

Oh yeah, last week I also installed the overdrive bypass plate from ipd, though I seriously doubt that has anything to do with my issue....I think....right???

The odor may just go away by itself-with all the things you did, all that chemical stuff is burning away when the engine gets hot and it smells. Of course, take a good look and make sure that a fuel line or injector is not leaking-often a lot of maintenance like you did may result in unintended consequences-something may have come loose... post back...

Did you get gas recently and fill up? if so you could have overfilled or forgot to tighten or replace the gas cap...do you have any exhaust leaks? throttle cleaner(MAF cleaner) same sh t... should have burned off by now it evaporates quickly and does not smell like gasoline nor exhaust...make sure your fuel pump/fuel filter is not leaking and open your trunk and see if the smell is in there too...stronger or same or weaker or none?
