Default 850 exhaust odor in cabin

I have a 1995 850 turbo. When the car is warmed up and at idle, I get engine odors coming in through the HVAC system. When the car is in motion, it is fine. I imagine that this is because of greater air movement when it the car is in motion. I can't tell if it is a burning oil smell or more of an exhaust odor. It is pretty much a crankacase combination. I had a small oil leak from the rear cam seal fixed, but the odor keeps coming. I going to try replacing the cabin filter next. I read some mention of a turbo return hose to check but could not find any more about it. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry to get your hopes up by posting, but I do not have a diagnosis. I have the same issue with my car (same car as yours.) I too only notice it when stopped or right when I take off after it had been idling in place.

If you look on the back of the motor there is a black rubber hose. that is the return line for the turbo. it is known to leak quite often, i belive that is what you are referring to.

do some searching and there is a post with a picture of it. i will also try to find a picture of it for you and post it in this thread.

Something is leaking on you car and is then burning on the exhaust and/or engine. I would get the car up to running temperature and then pop the hood to see if you can find out where the smell is coming from.

Default PVC System

Check the hose of the PCV system that is connected to the top of the engine. Often times the oil leaks under the cover which sits on top of the spark plugs. When the engine is hot, the fumes get sucked in from the Climate Control System inlet which is located in the left most corner under the windshield.

I replaced all the PCV hoses and oil sep, and the problem was resolved.

I noticed last night that oil was coming out from the top of dipstick tube. This supports PCV theory. Does anyone know of a good diagram of the PCV system that would help me isolate the leak point?
Thanks for the help.

you can Google the image...I think it will render the image...but type Breather Box or Flame trap and not PCV
