I have a 92 240 wagon and whenever I fill up the tank you can smell gas within the cabin till it gets to about 3/4 of a tank and then it goes away. But when it's full it's so bad that I have to leave the windows down while its in the garage so when I drive the car next the odor isn't as bad.

I have looked under the car and don't see any fuel leaks at all.
